Screwballs are now clear at the top!

01/11/22

Yet another 9-3 win puts them a point clear of Aces.

On Sunday, Screwballs won 8-4 against Tidy Rack in their outstanding game from week 3.

At 3-3 it was all to play for, but a strong finish by Niven Adams defeating Gary O’Neill 2-1 with breaks of 31, 33 and 39, and another 3-0 win for young Lucas Bryden against Scott Banks allowed Screwballs to get the win.

Back to Monday night, and each Screwballs player won their individual 3 frame mini-match, dominating Century from the start to finish, restricting the visitors to the Davis Club to only 3 frames.

It has been a perfect start for Screwballs, but their next 3 matches will really show their true title credentials: Away to Aces, home to Baize of Glory, then away to Lucky Break. These battles against teams just below them in the table will be the acid test.

Meanwhile, Aces failed to win for the first time this season, as they were held by Chancers in a 6-6 draw. A player from both sides won 3-0 in this match confirming its closeness. The turning point was an excellent victory for Callum Kinniburgh, who took down Graeme Innes, with a 2-1 victory.

There was a second 6-6 draw this week, this time between Point Break and Lucky Break. Lucky Break maintain their undefeated status in the League courtesy of 3 of their players winning. It looked like it was going to be a good night for Point Break, as Sophie Nix won 3-0 against Brian Shepley Junior, but unfortunately none of her teammates could quite get over the line to take the win and the full 2 points.

It was a great week for The Untouchables: Every member of their team winning, getting their first points on the board and one of their players winning 3-0! Their opponents on the night, Blue Arrows, have yet to really get going. Lots of individual promise has yet to materialize into a win. Most of their matches have come down to one or two frames. 9-3 was Blue Arrows heaviest defeat to date.

Baize of Glory got revenge for their League Cup exit against Usual Suspects by prevailing 8-4. Memories of that extra play off frame required to separate them at their last encounter will now be a distant memory for title chasing Baize of Glory. Another strong performance from Martyn Muir, winning 3-0 against Nicky Carr was a significant result. This leaves Baize of Glory 4th in the table and Usual Suspects sitting in 6th position.

Potting Bowlers and Tidy Rack will play later in the week.
