11/10/22
On frame difference, Lucky Break are leading the way over Screwballs, Aces and Century.
There were also first wins in the league for Usual Suspects and Baize of Glory.
A 3-0 win for Graeme Innes, that included several breaks over 30 helped Aces to a 9-3 victory. In their first home game of the season, both Ian Reid and Ian Craig also won 3-0! Gerry Pentleton eventually got some revenge with a 3-0 victory of his own, but ultimately it was a convincing 9-3 win for one of the competition favourites.
Blue Arrows ventured to Barr Leisure in Lochwinnoch to play Baize of Glory. 3-0 wins for Brian McCrone and Martyn Muir left the scores tied at 3-3 at the halfway stage. A victory for Ryan McKay against Connor Davidson by 2-1 was compounded by a 3-0 win by Stephen Shaw in his first appearance in the League. That 8-4 victory maintains Baize of Glory’s 100% home record after previously dumping Lucky Break out of the League Cup a few weeks earlier.
In what was always going to be a close affair, Century prevailed over Point Break by 7-5. A good 3-0 win for Dominic Coyle was probably the turning point of the match, as all the other matches finished 2-1. Many of the frames in this match came down to the last few balls and could easily have gone the other way.
Usual Suspects are currently leading 8-1 against Potting Bowlers. Due to a train strike Willie Gelliburn was prevented from getting to Irvine Snooker Club. It was agreed that his match against Sam McDonald would take place later this week. Brian Shepley Senior and Nicky Carr both won 3-0, with only Derek Muir managing to win a frame for Potting Bowlers against Stewart Garrick. Already guaranteed the victory, it is just a case of how big a margin it will be for Usual Suspects…
Another of this year’s favourites for the title are Screwballs. With Niven Adams missing, they drafted in Mark Lennox. Mark was the only member of his team not to win his match, but still won a frame to help his team to an 8-4 victory. Another win for young Lucas Bryden keeps him top of the player stats for the season so far, having won 11 frames out of a possible 12!
In a match full of close frames, Lucky Break somehow managed to win 11-1. On another night, with a bit more luck, victory could easily have gone to Tidy Rack. Definitely a match where the final score does not tell the full story. Nevertheless, 3-0 wins for Graeme Dick, Christian Gibson and Steven Stamp ensured a heavy defeat for their opponents and a place at the top of the League.
